Zach Ertz looks like a keeper. The Philadelphia Eagles tight end had the best game of his career this past Sunday and finally looks like he is finding his groove in Chip Kelly's up-tempo offense.
Ertz is the perfect athlete for this scheme. He is an athletic specimen at 6-foot-5 250-pounds, and he runs great routes for the position. With veteran tight end Brent Celek seemingly on his last legs Ertz looks like the perfect replacement in this offense.
Much was made of Kelly not utilizing the tight end position as much earlier in the season. He has made a more conscious effort of including his tight ends ' especially Ertz and Celek ' in the game plan, and it looks to be paying off.
Ertz should greatly benefit from one-on-one match-ups with much of the defense keying in on the likes of LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson. That's exactly what he has done. He has also used his size and separation skills to become more of a red zone threat.
With Jeremy Maclin injured it has been a collective effort in replacing his production. Guys like Riley Cooper and Ertz have done a great job of filling in on offense and putting up solid numbers to help limit the loss of Maclin thus far.
Ertz will be used more and more prominently going forward as he gets a better grasp of the offense and earns more trust from coach Kelly. He looks like the next great Eagles tight end going forward.
